Retirable: Inclusive Financial Planning

A trusted partner for Americans left behind by the retirement industry

We recently invested in a company called Retirable which is bringing retirement infrastructure to the millions of Americans that have never seen a financial plan.

People who receive professional financial advice typically work with their financial advisor who charges a percentage annually of the assets they manage (generally around 1%). Consequently, financial advisors spend their timing servicing and chasing large account balances, leaving a massive segment of the population unprepared for retirement. Retirable is about to change that.

Here’s what they do (from their website):

The Company is a leader in what we suspect will be an industry shift towards fee-based financial advice. Through automation, coaching, and self-service educational content - a single one of Retirable’s certified financial planners (CFPs) can help thousands of pre-retirees (those planning to retire within the next eight years) ensure they have the right answer to the most important question: “Do I have enough?”

We are proud to be working with a team that is so singularly prepared to tackle the challenges ahead. The CEO Tyler End began his career as a CFP before going on to build the sales machine at PolicyGenius. Having sat with weeping clients in his office as the reality of their financial situation dawned on them and then guiding them to financial security, he personifies the Company’s mission. He is joined by his close friends and collaborators Ian Yamey (former CTO at PolicyGenius and QuadPay), Brian Ramirez (former CMO at WiseBanyan), and Sue Zhou (Stash, WiseBanyan).

I am particularly thrilled to be partnering with my friends at Diagram Ventures as we hustle, coach, and (most importantly) cheerlead from the board.

Companies like Retirable, which have the potential to directly improve the lives of millions, lend us fortunate investors a special sense of responsibility and excitement as we help shape their future.

I can’t wait to see what the journey brings.
